If you have been told you need a particular Band Score for your IELTS test - but you have no idea what that means - you are not alone!
IELTS Band Scores are slightly different to the usual English Language Levels you see on the CEFR. On the CEFR you could be an A1 - or beginner - all the way up to a C2 - or proficiency level. But these levels do not easily match up to specific band scores in IELTS.
For example, if you need a Band 9 in your IELTS test, you will first need to be a C2 level, or proficient on the CEFR scale. But this alone does not guarantee you a Band 9!
In addition to your English level, you must also ensure your skills in specific areas are a high level. For example, your pronunciation in your speaking, or your essay writing.
