https://trevorclendenin.com | Created especially for Bluegrass Guitar Dads community on Skool (https://www.skool.com/bluegrass-dads-...) Nine Pound Hammer is one of the most important traditional bluegrass songs, commonly played at jams and festivals. In this video, I briefly cover the song’s history and why it became a bluegrass standard, then demonstrate the tune at full speed.
After the demo, I jam along to backing tracks at three progressively faster tempos:
• 160 BPM
• 180 BPM
• 200 BPM
Each pass is designed to give you space to play your own breaks, work on timing, and build confidence at real jam tempos. Start where you’re comfortable and move up as your hands and ears catch up.
This session is part performance, part practice tool, and part conversation about bluegrass tradition and technique. Grab your guitar, mandolin, fiddle, or banjo and play along.
