Skip to the 14:00 mark to see a heavy milling pass.
Set up and machining the edges of two 3/4" thick, 4140 steel plates on a horizontal mill. The plates were done together to save time. Not sure if that happened or not.
At the start one of the plates is deburred while hanging off my crane. The small belt sander was a recent purchase and it has made deburring large parts much easier and faster.
The initial set up was to get the saw cut edge roughly parallel to the table travel. I couldn't get the table close enough to the column face so I had to use some 1-2-3 blocks to space it out. After machining and deburring (not shown) the first side the second set up was accomplished by dialling in the previously machined edge. The heavy roughing cut on this side was .200 deep.
Later on (not shown) I will machine the ends square to the sides and then machine two tee-slots down the length of the plates.
This set up is about as rigid as you can get on a horizontal milling machine.
