Celebration of life details for locksmith, David Long, killed during eviction call

Описание: The Treasure Coast community is coming together on Thursday, Dec. 4, to honor David Long, a well-known locksmith who was shot and killed while assisting deputies on an eviction call late last month.

76-year-old Long was working a routine job when gunfire broke out, killing both him and Indian River County Sgt. Terri Sweeting-Mashkow was injured and injured another deputy. The incident stunned residents across the region and shook those who knew Long as a fixture in the community.

A memorial service is scheduled this afternoon at Calvary Chapel on 18th Street in Vero Beach.

Long had worked as a locksmith on the Treasure Coast for nearly 30 years, a role friends say he took great pride in. His dedication earned him loyal clients across Indian River and St. Lucie counties.

“He was a great guy, he was an extremely hard worker, one of those no-nonsense guys, but he would do anything for anybody,” said Meggin Divino, co-owner of Nick’s Family Restaurant, where Long was a regular.
