In the present simple tense, third person singular form verbs end with "s", "es", or "ies". These endings have three different pronunciations, depending on the last sound of the root verb.

With verbs that end with an unvoiced sound, "s" sounds like /s/.

With verbs that end with an voiced sound, "s" sounds like /z/.

With verbs that end with the sound /s/, /ʃ/, /ʧ/, /z/, /ʒ/, or /ʤ/, "s" sounds like /ɪz/.
