The 1852 Large Cent (Braided Hair Type) is from the
Braided Hair Large Cents Series (1839–1857).
These were some of the last copper large cents before the U.S. switched to smaller cents in 1857.
There were about 5 million coins minted.
It’s not a rare date in lower grades — but high grades can still be very valuable!
In Good they can be worth up to 30 dollars.
In Very Fine or Extremely Fine they can be worth up to $90.
In About Uncirculated they can be worth up to $160.
In Mint State they can be worth up to $7,500 or more.
Even brown coins can command premiums if they have attractive color and no spots.
1852 cents often come well-struck with good detail — making them popular with collectors.
Many were saved in quantity back then, especially in the northeast U.S.
These coins were minted before the shift to smaller “Flying Eagle” cents (1856–1858).
Large cents were discontinued partly because copper became too expensive by the mid-1850s.
