Singer Florence Adooni is part of the thriving Frafra Gospel scene in her native Ghana. She is sometimes called the "Queen of Frafra Gospel." This gospel style developed in the churches of Northeast Ghana. It's music meant to be sung to, dancing and clapping during a busy Sunday service. Florence grew up in Kumasi, further south, the epicenter of Ghanaian highlife, so her Frafra gospel style is blended with that other strong musical tradition: melodic and rhythmically pulsating highlife. She will be performing with an eight-piece band, including several festive brass instruments.
