Описание: Loneliness or social isolation among older adults has been demonstrated to adversely impact both mental and physical well being. Recent studies have outlined that social isolation among older adults is associated with increased health care spending by Medicare. Some suggest that social isolation should be considered a social determinant of health. In Great Britain, Prime Minister Theresa May recently appointed a Minister of Loneliness to address the issue. Here in the United States, there are efforts directed at reducing the instance of social isolation such as AARP Age Friendly communities that undertake to improve their built environment and increase transportation options; and Meals on Wheels programs that deliver “More than a Meal” interventions. Joining us to describe work from their organizations designed to reduce the instance of social isolation and to describe interventions being undertaken in communities are Elise Hernandez of Meals on Wheels America and Rodney Harrell of AARP’s Public Policy Institute. Moderator: John Feather, CEO, Grantmakers In Aging. Webinar date: March 8, 2018.
