USPS Delivers Mail for Election Officials

The Postal Service handles more than 420 million mailpieces per day, and we have the capacity to handle all Election Mail, including ballots.
Every federal election cycle, the Postal Service reaches out to local and state election officials with information: about mailing procedures, our operational standards, and our recommended best practices for utilizing the mail as a part of their election system.
Kit 600 is the Postal Service’s Official Election Mail Kit, which was sent to election officials, provides details on how to successfully use the mail as part of your elections.
In addition to Kit 600, we also publish the Postal Bulletin - the Official Election Mail Guide, several times each federal election year.
In these publications, we recommend and further explain the use of visibility tools, like special barcodes, our official Election Mail logo, tags, and other identifiers that help us process Election Mail, including ballots, and that in some cases can allow you as the customer to see where your ballot mail is in the mail stream.
Ballot envelope design and proper addressing are also important for effective use of the mail.
We have a team of Mailpiece Design Analysts available to work with you on ballot envelope designs - to help you get the best results.
Regarding addresses, please make sure your address list is up to date since most ballots cannot be forwarded.  
Additionally, we have Customer Relations teams located in every state that are available to discuss any concerns or issues. And all of our Election Mail materials are found on our website at USPS.com/electionmail.
As election day gets closer, we will ramp up efforts to expedite the delivery of ballot mail, using what we call “extraordinary measures” – a set of highly successful processes and procedures that we also employed in 2020 and 2022.

The United States Postal Inspection Service — as the federal law enforcement and security arm of the Postal Service — ensures the safety and security of Election Mail, and the protection of election officials from threatening and dangerous mail.
