Did Sproul Jr. Really Call This ‘God’s Judgment’?!

R.C. Sproul Jr. recently posted a shocking response thread on X claiming that a 10-year-old girl’s horrific suffering was the “judgment of God she had earned” for being a sinner. But is that really what Reformed theology and the Bible teach? Or is this a distortion that makes God look monstrous and misrepresents the careful distinctions our tradition has always made?
In this video, I walk through why his claim is horribly wrong — drawing from the Westminster Confession, John Calvin, Francis Turretin, and Stephen Charnock to show the historic Reformed position on sin, misery, and God’s judgment. We’ll unpack the difference between misery as a consequence of the fall and judgment as a judicial act of God, and why collapsing that distinction undermines the gospel itself and results in these insane takes that make us Reformed folk look crazy.
