What is a bigger priority, fishing or defence?
That may sound like an easy question but did you know that when the UK left the EU, it also left the Common Fisheries Policy — a system that let EU boats fish freely across shared waters.
But post-Brexit, the UK reclaimed full control over its own Exclusive Economic Zone — or EEZ — the area up to 200 nautical miles from its coastline.
To avoid disruption, a temporary deal was struck — letting EU vessels continue fishing in UK waters. But that deal expires in June next year and now talks over a new deal have been linked to defence.
