The Riley County Police Department Physical Abilities Test or RCAT was designed to replicate critical and essential physical tasks and demands faced by RCPD officers in the performance of their duties. This course must be completed in 3 minutes 52 seconds to pass.

The first part of the RCAT is the Push/Pull Machine which consists of a sequence requiring the participant to alternate between the Machine and controlled falls. The test begins when the officer pushes in the 50 pound machine and moves right to left, completing a 180 degree arc. The officer then falls on their stomach, stands back up, and touches the wall. This activity repeats four times, alternating between push and pull and falling to the stomach and back.

After completing the final fall, the obstacle run begins with the participant running to marker 1. From this they run diagonally to marker 2 jumping over a 4 foot obstacle. They then turn left and run up and down the stairs, around marker 3, and back up and down, hitting at least one step on each side.

The participant then runs around cone 4 to cone 5, jumping over two 18 inch obstacles, then over a 3 feet high railing, and runs back to the first cone. This repeats until 4 laps are completed.

After a rest of up to 60 seconds, the participant must drag a 150 pound dummy a distance of 25 feet. 3 attempts are allowed to complete the task.
