This is Dark Shadows by Cold Sun. Recorded in Austin, Texas in 1970 but shelved for years, it’s become one of those Texas psych grails that lives in that same heavier, darker neighborhood as the best late-60s underground stuff.
This rip comes from my personal copy of the 2024 Guerssen remaster (GUESS236). The sound is thick, haunted, and loud, with fuzz guitar and long tracks that actually stay interesting the whole way through.
One extra reason I love this one: Billy “Bill” Miller. He’s the autoharp player in Cold Sun, and later he shows up in Roky Erickson’s world too, bringing that same electric autoharp sound into Roky Erickson and the Aliens. Miller was a huge Roky fan, and he helped Roky get his early post-Elevators solo band rolling.

If you’re into heavy Texas psychedelia, darker garage-psych, or late-60s/early-70s psych that feels genuinely unhinged, this one is essential listening.
