Serb reinforcements troops were being deployed in Kosovo near the Macedonian border on Tuesday.

APTN filmed Serb army convoys arriving in the villages of Kacanik and General Jankovic, ten miles inside the border.

General Jankovic is located around 5 miles (8 kilometres) from Tuesday's flashpoint in which cannon fire echoed through the hills.

Meanwhile, international officials struggled to get the warring sides to commit to a peace plan before talks resume in France next Monday.

Kosovo Albanians have deserted Kacanik and its neighbouring village of General Jankovic, leaving behind their homes and places of work.

Fighting was reported in the area bordering on Macedonia, as U-S envoy Richard Holbrooke arrived in Belgrade to pressure Yugoslavia's president to accept a peace plan.

This has been a flashpoint in recent days.

Villages have been burnt out and residents fled.

Fighting was also reported on Tuesday around the Vucitrn area northwest of the capital Pristina.

Holbrooke, who negotiated last year's Kosovo cease-fire and the 1995 Dayton agreement which ended the Bosnian war, arrived Tuesday in the Yugoslav capital, Belgrade.

Holbrooke is in Belgrade to pressure Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic to accept a peace plan.
