The Mikoyan-Gurevich/ MiG-25PD FOXBAT/ is a supersonic interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft/ that was among the fastest military aircraft to enter service.
It was designed by the Soviet Union's Mikoyan-Gurevich bureau/ and is one of the few combat aircrafts/ built primarily using stainless steel. It was the last plane designed by Mikhail Gurevich/ before his retirement.
As of 2020/, the MiG-25 remain one of the highest-flying/ military aircraft/, and is one of the fastest/ serially produced/ interceptor aircraft.
The MiG-25/ has an operational top speed of Mach 2.83. In fact/, it can fly at Mach 3.4/ but at a risk of significant damage to the aircraft and its engines. It also features a powerful radar/ and four air-to-air missiles.
This model was used in the 1025th Aerial squadron/, Libyan Arab Republic Air Force.
The Libyan Arab Republic Air Force/ operated a large number of Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25s/, some sources say more than 60 were delivered.
Specifically, MiG-25PD/, MiG-25RBK/, MiG-25PU/ and MiG-25RU variants. They were operated by No. 1025 Squadron at Jufra-Hun/, No. 1055 Squadron at Ghardabiya/ and an unidentified squadron at Sabha Air Base.
As of February 2007/ Air Forces Monthly reported all aircraft of the type had been retired.
