"Racing Into the Night" (Yoru ni Kakeru / 夜に駆ける) by YOASOBI is a Japanese song based on the short story Thanatos no Yūwaku (The Temptation of Thanatos) by Mayo Hoshino. The song explores dark and emotional themes, especially around life, death, and the intense pull of love. The song tells the story of a narrator deeply in love with a girl who is struggling with suicidal thoughts. Throughout the song, the narrator tries to hold on to her and convince her not to succumb to the "temptation of Thanatos" (Thanatos being a symbol of death in Greek mythology). Despite their efforts, there's a sense of inevitability, and the song ends on a haunting, ambiguous note as if the narrator might have chosen to follow her into death to be together.
