Drain Unblocking and Collapsed Buchan Trap - Plymouth

This visit was Roman returning to another unblocking job in Plymouth. Sewage had backed up through several manholes, which usually points to a deeper issue rather than a one-off blockage. On site, there are two different traps involved.

• One is the neighbour’s drain, which still has a drain rod stuck inside it.
It wasn’t causing problems on this visit, but it’s likely to keep blocking again in the future for its own reasons.

• The main issue is the interceptor (Buchan) trap, which has collapsed.
This collapsed interceptor is what’s causing the repeated backups. The insurance company has confirmed they will pay for the replacement of the collapsed interceptor trap, but only if a CCTV survey is carried out first. The cost of that survey — including the excess — would need to be paid by the customer.

At the moment, the ongoing unblockings are being paid for directly by the customer, not the insurance company. This means the customer is repeatedly paying for temporary fixes, while the structural problem underneath remains.
