🔹 Black lines on onion skin – could be just soil or sometimes a fungal infection (Aspergillus niger).
🔹 Quick check – Peel off the outer layer.
• If inside is fresh and white → Safe.
• If it smells bad or looks spoiled → Avoid it.
🔹 Cooking kills fungus, but not toxins – If the fungus has already spread inside, it may have released toxins that heat cannot destroy.
🔹 Who’s at risk? Elderly, sick, or those with low immunity may fall ill if they eat such onions.
🔹 Best tip – When you see black lines on the onion skin, it’s safer not to buy it.
