Conversion of St. Paul: Prayer & Penance - The Greatest Miracle Is the Conversion of One Soul

Описание: Today we celebrate the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul, one of the most powerful and hope-filled events in the history of the Church.

In this homily, we reflect on how Saint Paul’s conversion was won through the prayers and martyrdom of Saint Stephen, the Church’s first martyr. Saint Augustine teaches that had it not been for Saint Stephen’s forgiveness — “Lord, do not hold this against them” — we may never have known the great Apostle to the Gentiles.

This sermon reminds us that the conversion of one soul is the greatest miracle of all, greater than the creation of the world, greater than raising the dead, and greater than any physical miracle. As Saint Thomas Aquinas explains, the supernatural life of grace in one soul outweighs all the goods of the natural world.

We are challenged to ask ourselves:

Do we truly believe in the power of prayer and penance?

Are we willing to offer sacrifices for the conversion of sinners?

Could our lack of generosity be holding back modern-day conversions?

Saint Paul was once a fierce persecutor of the Church — yet God transformed him into a chosen vessel. This homily calls us to pray for the most hardened sinners, the most abandoned souls, and even those who persecute the Church today, trusting that God still works the greatest of miracles.
