SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Just call it the 'Neo Beam Team' because the younger players are all about that powerful purple laser, and they know what has to be done to activate it into the night sky.
After losing the previous 7 contests, the Sacramento Kings won their 4th game in a row by obliterating the Washington Wizards 128-115 in front of 16,339 fans in Golden 1 Center.
Russell Westbrook had 26 points, 6 assists, and two rebounds for the Kings (12-30, 9-13 at G1C). He made 9 of 14 shots from the field, 6 of 9 beyond the arc, and both free-throw attempts.
DeMar DeRozan had 17 points, and Zach LaVine and Precious Achiuwa had 16 points each. Dennis Schröder returned from his 3-game suspension to score 15 points off the bench.
Domantas Sabonis, who was iced for 27 games, entered the game at the 5:11 mark of the 1st quarter. He finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block, and a steal in 21 minutes.
The youth movement of Achiuwa, Nique Clifford (9 points, 7 rebounds), Maxime Raynaud (4 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists), and Dylan Cardwell (8 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist) all had a hand in the victory and, ceremoniously, again, lit the Beam.
Alex Sarr had 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Tre Johnson added 18 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals for the District (10-30, 4-16 on the road), who have lost their last 5 games.
Kyshawn George and Justin Champagnie had 15 points each for the Wizards.
Tied 22-all, the Kings went on a furious 18-0 run, completed by a dunk to end the opening quarter with a 41-22 lead. Sacrament made 15 of 24 shots from the field (62.5%), and held the Wizards to 9 of 20, including 1 of 9 (11%) from beyond the arc.
The Kings got a little bit careless with the basketball in the second quarter, committing 8 turnovers in the 2nd quarter after having 1 miscue in the 1st frame. Behind by 21 points, the Wizards countered with an offensive flurry because of the Kings' mishandling of the rock.
At the 2:20 mark, the Wizard cut the Kings’ lead 60-57 with a dunk by Champagnie. The Kings led 67-61 at the break. The Wizard scored 39 points in the 2nd quarter. The Wizards made 14 of 24 shots from the floor (58.3%) and 4 of 8 in 3-point territory in the 2nd quarter.
The Kings built their lead back up to lead 101-84 through 3 quarters, outscoring the Wizards 34-23 in the 3rd frame.
