Hi guys, this is Abhi from Gokcedb. In this video, you're going to learn how to create a local and global secondary index in dynamo DB. Let's start by navigating to the dynamo DB service then click on create table and give it a name for the partition key.

I'm going to Select the Property underscore number and the sort key. I will select created underscore time. Click on customize settings then click on create local index note.

You cannot create a local index after the table has been created. I'm going to Select Property underscore State as my sort key for the local secondary index then hit create. Scroll down and hit create table and give it a few minutes.

Next, I'm going to use the batch write item command to bulk. Insert some records into my property table then hit on explore items. As of now, we have 15 items on our property table.

Expand the scan slash query items section then click on query. Now, you should be able to query your property table with the property number as the partition and create time at the sort key. If you select the property to underscore State local index from the drop-down, you can use the property underscore State as the sort key for the same partition key.

To use a different partition key, you will have to create a global secondary index. Click on update settings then navigate to the indexes tab in the global secondary indexes section, and click on create an index. This time for the partition key, I'm going to Select Property underscore legal description and for sort key.

I'll select underscore time then hit create an index.  Give it a few minutes for the status to change to active, then go back to explore items. Click on query then select the property legal description index from the drop-down.

Now, you can query the table with property legal description as the partition key and created time as the sort key.  There you have it. Make sure you like, subscribe, and turn on the notification bell.

Until next time.
