At –72°C in the Siberian wilderness, an 80-year-old couple clings to life inside a lonely, storm-buried log cabin perched on a cliff ridge. They keep the iron wood stove alive, haul dry wood, and melt clean snow for water—every step timed to conserve heat. Before night fully falls, they scrape open an outdoor hatch buried under drifted snow, climb down into an ice-walled storage cellar, and bring up frozen meat to cook a hot stew. They portion extra meat into bait bundles, wash greasy bowls outside with hot water to reduce scent, and quietly check ropes, stakes, and torches.
When the wolf pack finally commits to the bait in the cliff-edge wind corridor, the elders step in behind them with firelight and distance—forcing the wolves to retreat along unstable cornice snow. One slips into the void, the rest flee into the whiteout. The couple bars the door, feeds the stove, and finally sleeps as the blizzard erases every track.
