I've had this recorded & ready for over half a month at this point. But I spent quite some time considering if I should actually post this or not. Eventually I ended up forgetting about this for awhile, but finally I remembered about it again today and I decided, just screw it. This is much like my now concluded custom 20 car, 30 minute speed war races at SSRX on GT7. Only this will of course be just a one-off. Don't have anywhere near the level of freedom with making custom races on GT5 like you do on GT7 so there's no way it'd work. I don't need another series involving just Route X after the one I did on GT7 spanned a ridiculous 39 races between May last year and this past July. I figured for nostalgia sake that a kind of similar one-off race on the oldest GT game to have Route X would be kind of cool.
Because you can't do custom time-limited endurance races in GT5, I just set the distance to 10 laps. Which is more than what I usually completed in 30 minutes in the GT7 series but I figured a 10-lapper would make it seem more official. Plus I wanted to make sure there'd be pit stops taking place during the race as there's only the option to turn tire wear & fuel consumption on or off in GT5. Can't do them separately & also can't choose the rate at which they fall off like in GT7. Because GT5 has no option for adding custom cars to the lineup & because the AI lineup is determined based on what you're using along with all the upgrades applied to it at the time, I used the truly unique Mazda Furai Concept to get an absolute banger 16-car field of nearly all Le Mans prototype cars. A lot of which I think we can all agree wish we had back in GT7.
Because you can't have custom cars in races, that also means no custom setups either. But in this case, no custom setups just meant a big pack of cars contending for the win at over 230 MPH for most of the way. Especially as the draft is far stronger in older GT games. My car is quite underpowered compared to the rest of the field but my intense knowledge in making top speed setups helps make up that deficit easily. Since GT5 does atleast have a day/night cycle, I set time progression to around x30 so that the race started in the morning, went through the entire day, and night, and ended the next morning. Although I’m not doing more races here, I won’t rule out the possibility of more races like this at a few other tracks.
