Trudeau announces Canada trade mission to Japan during PM Kishida visit | FULL

Описание: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada will send a team to Japan in October as part of a trade mission. He made the announcement alongside his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida, after welcoming the prime minister in Ottawa on Tuesday.

The pair also spoke about China after Canada recognized it as an increasingly disruptive global power.

"There are areas where we need to work with China. But there are other areas in which we're going to have to compete with China. And other areas where we're going to have to directly contest China whether it's on human rights or whether it's on respect for international rules and a rules-based order," Trudeau said.

Trudeau added that Canada has welcomed Japan's recent increased defence spending and noted that Ottawa is doing the same including a major investment in replacing its aging air force with 88 new F-35 fighter jets.

Japan has watched with growing concern China's belligerence toward Taiwan as Beijing seeks to assert its sovereignty claims over the island.

Kishida is visiting Canada as part of a tour of Group of Seven (G7) countries including Britain, France, Italy, and the United States.
