King Pulakeshi II, a devotee of Lord Vishnu had built the two Shivalayas that dates back to the 5th century. A 16th century cannon is placed north to the Lower Shivalayas that looks down on the city. Close to this is a 14th century watchtower. The Bhootnath temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the destroyer. The form of Bhoothnath is said to be the combination of the God of soul. spirit and the Ghost The temple all dark inside has an image of Shiva in an angry and irate temper. The temple is situated near the Agastyatirtha Tank.
