Summary
The film is titled "Chronic Renal Failure: View from a different angle". First image is an optical illusion where a figure is shown on the palm of a hand, implying that we can embrace something "big" like a chronic disease, or a dialysis patient. Next, CRF is paralleled to a landscape which looks dark and dome. The life of every patient to a road that we can not see its end. But if somebody looks around, he can see the light. The poem of Kavafis "Ithaca" implies that the journey has more value than its destination. Then we listen to the patients who display their thoughts about CRF. How they live with it, what is their support, social superstition, the role of the nurse, of the doctor. Important messages are shown, as : they have a voice, which they want to be heard and listened to (for example by doctors), they feel that it is important that they take "life in their hands". Practical issues are pinpointed like dialysis choice. At the end a very well fit 80 year old woman is shown who asks if ageing is a disease...? Implying that CRF as premature aging has room for intervention. Last scene is singing by a dialysis patient. The film was produced in November 2018 in Athens, Greece.
