Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.
Finnish is a Finnic language of the Uralic family, spoken by most people in Finland and ethnic Finns abroad. It is one of Finland's two official languages, along with Swedish. In Sweden, Finnish and Meänkieli (mutually intelligible with Finnish) are official minority languages. The Kven language, also mutually intelligible with Finnish, is spoken by a Finnish-descended minority in Norway's Troms and Finnmark counties.
Veps, or Vepsian, is a Finnic language from the Uralic family, spoken by the Vepsians and written in the Latin script. It is closely related to Finnish and Karelian. In 1989, 12,500 people identified as ethnic Veps according to Soviet statistics. By 2010, this number had dropped to 5,900, with around 3,600 native speakers. The language has three main dialects based on location: Northern, Central & Southern Veps. Though the most distinct, the Northern dialect remains mutually intelligible with the other two. Northern dialect speakers refer to themselves as "Ludi."
