The Garmin Fenix 8 has come a long way since its rocky launch. As of November 21st, with firmware 11.90, the watch feels more polished and stable. If you’re considering getting Garmin’s flagship Fenix, now might be the right time. While there are still some minor bugs—like occasional reboots in obscure menus—they’re not mission-critical, meaning your activities and data are safe. That said, if you’re looking for alternatives, the Fenix 7 Pro and Epix Pro are still solid options, especially with potential discounts around Black Friday.

For me, the Fenix 8 shines in its durability, navigation features, and battery life. However, it’s not without competition. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 has impressed me as a versatile option for day-to-day life and hiking, thanks to features like fall detection, crash detection, and offline maps. While it doesn’t offer the same level of customization or ruggedness as Garmin’s devices, it does strike a good balance for those who don’t need an ultra-specialized sports watch.
