-- PRESENTATION: ARAKI RYŪ GUNYŌ KOGUSOKU --
This school was founded by Araki Munisai Minamoto no Hidenawa. In 1808, the 4th representative Akaba Ikkenta Minamoto no Nobuchika turned it into a complete “Sōgōbujutsu” by incorporating many weapons such as the staff, Iai, Naginata, Toride, Jū(jutsu), the art of ropes, Tachi, Yari (spear), and Chigiri (a kind of flail).
This school was transmitted as a Bujutsu made from the experience of war, and has characteristics that are strongly linked to actual combat. Among other things, both swords are carried during the practice of Iai, and in the case of standing techniques, the diagonal slash “Kesa Giri” is used a lot to cut down the opponent.
