The second part of my Limerick Junction video recorded one wet afternoon in early 1995.
Once again there was a great variety of passenger and freight trains to be seen. At the end of this compilation we can witness the first part of the complicated shunt performed by the once a day (in each direction) Rosslare 'Boat Train'. The train arrived from Limerick city into a bay at the north end of the station, deposited it's passengers, propelled out again, ran via a rarely used line at the side of the station and was then put into a bay at the south end where it waited for about half an hour. At departure time, most of this process was repeated with any passengers aboard who were planning to travel (in reality, not many) hauled out of the bay, propelled back through the station and onto the Limerick line from whence it had come originally. The train would then set off forwards across a flat crossing with the Dublin main line and set off towards Tipparary. Unfortunately, I was only able to capture the first half of this as we departed on that train. The steam heated Cravens coaches present a welcoming sight on such a cold wet day.
