Описание: The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has called on security agencies across the country to adopt a proactive approach in safeguarding all electoral processes.

Professor Yakubu made this appeal during the second quarterly consultative meeting between INEC and the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), held today at the commission's headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting aimed to establish a comprehensive roadmap for securing the various electoral activities outlined in INEC's calendar. Key activities highlighted by the INEC boss include bye-elections to fill vacant positions in sixteen constituencies across twelve states, the Anambra State governorship election, and the nationwide resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration.

Professor Yakubu underscored the critical importance of robust and well-planned security architecture, stating that meaningful development and success in any government endeavor would remain elusive without it. He stressed the urgency of addressing specific security concerns already flagged by stakeholders and ensuring the protection of INEC staff, election materials, and voters throughout the entire electoral process.

Responding to INEC's call, the National Security Adviser to the President, Nuhu Ribadu, represented by Hassan Yahaya, pledged to strengthen collaboration between security and law enforcement agencies. This enhanced cooperation, he assured, would facilitate the swift addressing of potential threats and challenges that may arise during the upcoming elections.
