Martin grew up in a very disciplined home; he did not do drugs or drink alcohol to the point of addiction. In his early 20's he got in a terrible car accident, which leads to his addiction. The aftermath of the accident caused him to seek pain medication, and his focus on daily tasks was not the same as it used to be, so Martin looked for help from his physician. He wound up taking more medications than he realized, and for 14 years, his routine was to take a cocktail of pills. Martin did not notice he was losing himself to the medications until he attempted suicide three times. In the last attempt to kill himself, he faintly looked in the mirror of a motel bathroom and realized that he needed to get help or his family would pay the emotional consequences of his death. He immediately called a suicide helpline and was admitted for a few months to reach sobriety and a new sense of self-worth.


Martin is now three years sober, has a great relationship with his family. He continues to share his sobriety for others to be encouraged and know that no one has to go through life alone. This is his story. #usingmystory​
