This side: “You're Driving me Crazy” , an American popular song composed (music and lyrics) by Walter Donaldson in 1930, in Polish lyrics version.
These who do not know Polish will not be able to assess and appreciate the perfect command of this language in a spoken/sung form which appears in the recorded renditions of Leo Monosson, the language which is exceptionally difficult in pronunciation. It is – in the mannerism of early 1930’s – excellent here. Such a capability cannot be achieved from the paper with a song text which was learned before entering the recording studio; it must have been deep in the roots of that person, which proved in case of Monosson to be true. Surely, polyglot skills might have helped in that case a lot but they were not enough.
In Summer 1932 Leo Monosson arrived in Warsaw to perform in cabarets and to make a series recordings in Polish language at the small and rather poor Lonora studio. What was factually done and effect of which proved the limited conditions of that enterprise.
The record presented herewith sounds, however, totally different than the others: it is much, much better in a way of – acoustic, composition of the band and arrangement, and in comparison with others it appears to be relatively sophisticated. Therefore a suspicion may arise if Monosson really made these two Polish language sides at Lonora or perhaps he had recorded them, according to some agreement, still in Berlin ? If so – where and with whom...? Only a special sensitivity of the ear of someone who knows whereabouts of the time and the place may help today.
It seems that if Leo Monosson could express something today, it would probably be his great gratitude to the Internet medium, because it was the Internet and YT which made this rather forgotten artist be back popular and desirable.
In fact, 12 years ago, this name did not arouse much interest and was probably known to only a handful of enthusiasts. If something was written about him, it was mainly that he was to die of misery and oblivion somewhere across the ocean, in a shelter for poor old people, which proved to be untrue. Then, in a few years - a sudden change happened and hundreds of his recordings, one by one were appearing on the YT field....
To shorten the history of the artist's return to fame, the author of the channel would confess that in the year 2011 he was honoured to receive a correspondence from the cousin of Leo Monosson, Francois, in which the artist's history was described in detail and to which a large selection of photographs, documents and copies of unknown recordings was attached. That gave the author the idea of creating then a special video which content would dispel all doubts and interested parties could learn the real facts about the artist's true history.
These visitors who did not have chance to view they may kindly do it now: • Leo Monosson returns ... with his true his...
