Police have arrested and charged one of their own in a murder investigation that is now raising serious questions about crime, drugs and accountability within the ranks. Police constable Kenroy Allen is accused of killing Shakeem Ferguson, one of two men killed in brazen Ladyville shootings on January twenty-fifth, where a third man was seriously injured. Investigators have said the gun involved has been retrieved and tested and authorities are now probing whether drug-related motives and linked homicides in the area are connected to this case. Allen wore his police issued jacket when he was escorted to court today before Chief Magistrate Deborah Rogers. He was read a single charge of murder. No plea was taken and he will be remanded at the Belize Central Prison until his next court appointment on May fifteenth. Key evidence in the case includes Allen’s black Chevy Equinox, which was spotted at the scene of the murder, as well as a ballistic report which links his personal firearm to the murder. Investigators also retrieved clothing from Allen’s home they believe he was wearing at the time of the shooting. Here’s what police are saying about Ferguson and other murders in the Ladyville area.
