This is the incredible true story of Abraha, the powerful ruler who marched upon Makkah with 60,000 soldiers and war elephants, intending to destroy the Kaaba.
But Allah intervened.
This event is recorded in the Qur’an in Surah Al-Fil (Chapter 105):
﴿ أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَابِ الْفِيلِ ﴾
﴿ وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ ﴾
﴿ تَرْمِيهِمْ بِحِجَارَةٍ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ ﴾
﴿ فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍ مَّأْكُولٍ ﴾
Allah sent flocks of birds, each carrying stones of hard clay, that utterly annihilated the army.
Even the giant elephant Mahmūd, trained for war, refused to step a single foot toward the Kaaba — by Allah’s command.
This event is also known as “The Year of the Elephant,” the SAME year the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was born.
Historians confirm Abraha and his campaign, but they cannot explain why he never reached Makkah.
The Qur’an gives the answer.
