Probably the most beautiful place in Sanremo, Italy.

Unfortunately the sanctuary was closed when I visited it in the evening hours this summer. But still it was more than worth the effort.

The walk up, the views over the city and this beautiful shrine are making this a breathtaking place.

When you have the chance, go visit it. You won’t regret it.

A jewel atop the City of Flowers

Among the places of worship dearest to the people of Sanremo, along with the San Siro Cathedral, is the Santuario Madonna della Costa, a Marian shrine built around 1361. Today, it represents the most panoramic and central point of San Remo, where peace and silence invite meditation.
Discover it on an incredible sightseeing excursion walking through the old town, known as La Pigna. The historic centre is located at the top of a hill, where you will be led by a breathtaking walkway that is bordered by cypress and olive trees and made of black and white pebbles that form geometric patterns.
The main festivity associated with the Sanctuary is the Feast of Our Lady of the Assumption, celebrated on 15 August. The interior is richly decorated with frescoes, sculptures, stucco work and precious marbles all worth seeing. In every season, day and evening, the faithful can leave written prayers there.
