Trail Dog Training - Training Layla At Parkwood Springs

Описание: Well, Layla has indeed stayed with us, and we've been investing time and effort in Puppy School and obedience training for a while now!

She is still young-ish, and as she was surrendered to M.I.L., her training history is basically unknown.

Parkwood is reasonably close to us, and we know the trails and other surrounding areas well, so was a good choice for us on the day.
Beware: don't do this at busy times, as it will be very distracting for your dog!

We decided to get her started under advice from various people, including our dog trainer. Basically, it's common-sense. Don't over-do things, let her build up at her own pace.

We started with just walking her next to the bikes as we push them a bit - lots of people talk about getting the dog use to the sound of the hub, but that was never really a problem for her.

The next task was to have Layla follow one of us, while the other holds the lead. Lots of treats and praise 😉
We make a very conscious effort to ensure that we are both consistent with her (in all of the training) - that way, there is no question of whether she'll behave with only one of us.

The same drill is then taken onto a wider path - still not a trail. Just one of us riding, while the other walks and holds the lead, preferably slack.

She did so well, that we tried riding with her on the leash! Layla absolutely smashed it! 😂 Also important: always make sure you're prepared to pick up your dog's poop! 👍

No doubt there will be some set-backs along the way, but it's a really positive start to the first session of this (we don't show all of it, but basics taught in puppy-school are pretty essential to success here), which includes a lot of consistent repetition of an exercise.
