The Arturia Brute is a pure drum machine which means it is not a MIDI controlled, nor is it anything else but a analog beat machine.

It is of impressive size and has a generous number of controls to really deliver an impressive range of sounds. This Arturia DrumBrute demo will explore some of the things you can do with this analog drum synth.

Frankly, it is a surprise. Arturia is still relatively new in the drum synth realm. Expectations at this price point were not very high for a relative new comer, but it was a nice surprise that it performed as well as it did and that it delivered such a high degree of control.

There first line was the MiniBrute, but they have dedicated quite a few years to developing a full sized synth that they could be proud of and hey have done it with the DrumBrute.

This is No Wallflower.

If you are expecting a small panel of controls placed on a flimsy board you will be disappointed. One word that can describe this drum synthesizer is hardy as you can see in the video.

It weighs in at over 3kgs. It feels durable. The knobs are chunky and easy to use, the box that houses the circuitry is durable.

In most cases the knobs perform a single function which keeps things simple and offers more control. In the rare instance a knob does control more than one function, an LED indicator lights up to let you know which mode you are in.

The DrumBrute delivers percussion sounds exclusively in analog. It is simple in its design yet exquisite. Frankly you would think that Arturia has been doing this for years.

As a budget drum machine under $500 this machine really delivers. It is equipped with both mini and standard output jacks which is a nice feature. In all it has 12 input/output ports. The back of the machine is pretty busy looking realm.

The Arturia DrumBrute Sounds.

There is one sound missing that we could detect during our review. Oddly enough there is no cowbell sound, which it is a good bet no one is missing, but it is odd that they left it out but don’t worry there are plenty of sounds to make the case for this machine.

If you are stuck on reinvention the sequencer will get you there. The sequencer offers 4 banks with 16 patterns.

The sequencer is pretty impressive. It can implement polyrhythms up to 64 steps which means length can be unique to every track. It is a great option for creating one of a kind loops for every sound.

The DrumBrute seamlessly delivers toms, congas, hi hats, kick, snares and more all deliver crisp clear sound with deep tones.

Overall.

This drum beat audio synth delivers the sounds that you want and the control that you need in the studio. It is a big piece of equipment but it is well worth making room for.

The weight makes it not really a portable option, but If you don’t mind dealing with a little huffing and puffing to move it around than it could be.
