Resetting your Amazon Alexa device can be done either through the Alexa app or manually using the physical buttons on the Echo device itself. This process is helpful if you're giving away your device, troubleshooting issues, or switching to a different Amazon account. Resetting will remove all previous settings and return the device to factory defaults, making it ready for new setup.

To reset using the Alexa app, make sure your Echo device is still connected to your account. Open the Amazon Alexa app on your iPhone or Android device. Once the app is open, tap on the Devices tab located at the bottom of the screen, then choose Echo & Alexa. Select the device you want to reset.

Tap the gear icon in the top right corner to open the settings menu for that device. Scroll to the bottom and look for the option labeled deregister. Tap it to remove the Echo from your Amazon account. Once deregistered, your Echo device will automatically reset itself and enter pairing mode, which is indicated by a spinning orange light.

If you no longer have access to the Alexa app or the device is not appearing in your list, you can manually reset the Echo using its buttons. On most Echo Dot models with an action button, press and hold the action button for about 20 seconds until you see the orange light appear. For newer models without an action button, press and hold the microphone off and volume down buttons together for 20 seconds. If you have an Echo Show or another Echo device with a screen, swipe down from the top, go to Settings, then Device Options, and select Reset to Factory Defaults.

After the reset, the device will be ready to be paired with a new account or Wi-Fi network. Always make sure the device is plugged in and powered on during the reset process.
