While driving, it’s your responsibility to ensure the road ahead is clear. If you hit an object lying on the road, it can cause serious damage to your vehicle or lead to a collision.
Road hazards such as vehicle equipment, tree branches, or boxes and bags can be avoided if you follow these tips.
• When you’re behind the wheel, constantly scan ahead looking for potential dangers.
• If you spot a hazard, slow down.
• Don’t swerve suddenly as you may hit another vehicle.
• Depending on the size of the hazard, you may need to change lanes.
At night or in poor driving conditions, slow down and be extra cautious because it can be harder to see objects on the road. Spotting a hazard early and reacting calmly can help you avoid a potentially dangerous situation.
