If left untreated, it can lead to premature death from cirrhosis (scarring of the liver), liver failure, or liver cancer. It is known as a "silent killer" because there are often no symptoms until the infection advances into its late stage. If you are pregnant or the child of a mother who has hepatitis B, it is recommended that you get screened for early detection!
