Описание: The very popular Phil Donahue Show was the first talk show format that included audience participation. He was a master showman. He knew how to “stir” his audiences up and get them to participate. Few adults were telling their secrets about their illiteracy/sub-literacy on TV when we were guests on the Show. Most American’s were not aware of America's illiteracy epidemic at the time or they were in denial. It seemed to me like there were a lot of parents and teachers in the audience that were interested in the topic of reading. We ruffled a few feathers and Phil loved it. He was very nice to his guests.

Many adults are left suspended in their childhoods in varying ways and degrees; academically, intellectually, spiritually, psychologically, and emotionally, when they are unable to do what a second or third grader can do: read the printed words that surround them. Not knowing how to read is very frustrating and can trigger anger. Getting an education is the gateway to a better job, better opportunities and a more prosperous life. There is no way you can get a proper education, if you cannot read.

DON’T BLAME TEACHERS. TRAIN THEM.—DON’T BLAME STUDENTS. TEACH THEM. No more excuses. It will change lives and save lives.
