--------------------------------What's in this video---------------------------
The Treaty of Sevres was signed on the 10th of August 1920. The treaty marks the end of the Ottoman empire. And the birth of Turkey. The Entente powers being France, Britain, Italy and Greece. Would all divide up Ottoman lands, in all of their own military and political schemes. As well as creating the nations of Armenian and a Kurdish states from the fallen Empire.
The Turks were to give economic concessions to France and Italy, who set up an occupation zone within Anatolia. The Greeks would be given western thrace and areas in Anatolia. And in 5 years time a referendum would be held to see which nation these areas would like to be a part of.
The Turks were also forced to limit their army to 50,000 men, and where to shrink their fleet. And like other central powers members. They as well had a debt to pay to the Entente.
Nationalism in Turkey began to skyrocket at these humiliating terms. And when the Greeks began landing in Anatolia to take part in the partition and occupation of the old Ottoman empire. The Turkish war of independence or the Greco-Turkish war began on the 19th of May 1919. With the French and English population and war support unwilling to fight such a war. And with the Turks fighting a guerilla war against Greece. The war was on a timer till the Entente were completely exhausted from the war. And on the 24th of July 1923 the treaty of Lausanne was signed and the war was over.
The treaty of Lausanne was signed by the new Turkish Government led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Who had led the Turkish people to victory, and established the Turkish state and a new cultural and political Identity.
The Treaty of Lausanne would establish the new state of Turkey and its new borders. Kicking out the Italians and most French Influence in the area. As well as forcing Greek and Turkish populations within both countries into forced migration into their new ethnic states. Approximately 2 million people were shifted between borders.
During the Greco-Turkish war the Turkish Armenian war was unfolding, where the Amrenians were left alone with no support of the Entente. And were crushed by the soviets and Turkish armies from both sides. And their ethnic state never came to its people who would continue to be discriminated against within the new Turkish state.
