American church musician and composer Richard Peek (1927–2005) was born in Mason, Michigan and was educated at Michigan State University, the Juilliard School of Music, and Union Theological Seminary (where he earned a PhD). In 1952, he came to Charlotte, North Carolina and served as Minister of Music at Covenant Presbyterian Church for more than 47 years. There he directed the Covenant Musical Series and was active in his Presbyterian denominational committees. As a composer, Peek wrote more than 300 pieces for organ, choir, solo instruments, and ensembles.
