Jim Krause will share the fascinating history of the Cincinnati, Hamilton & Dayton Railroad, which was purchased by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in 1909 from J.P. Morgan. This railroad became the Toledo & Cincinnati Division of the B&O in 1917. His newly published book, available at the Cincinnati Railroad Club and online at the club's bookstore, offers an in-depth look at the CH&D’s journey from 1851 to 1917. The CH&D played a crucial role in the expansion of manufacturing hubs and population in western Ohio. Initially constructed by visionary individuals to promote the growth of the Great Miami River Valley, the railroad fell into the hands of unscrupulous robber barons and Wall Street financiers in 1882. This led to a series of greedy owners and management that ultimately undermined the railroad through corruption and trickery.
Jim Krause, our speaker, hails from Hamilton and is a graduate of Miami University. He also contributes a history column to the Hamilton Journal-News.
