This assumption is annoying on SO many levels. And it’s assumptions like these that keep us from making and keeping a true connection. It’s flawed assumptions like these that help us feed our flawed broken love narratives that say ‘we have to give something up to get something back. We have to trade something of value to get some value in return. People will use you. All men are dogs. All men cheat. Love doesn’t last. Love hurts…’ blah, blah, blah.
Here’s how this works:
The story you’re telling yourself about the person you want in your mind determines the EXACT person who shows up in your life and helps make that story come true. So why not tell yourself a love story where you get to play the hero or heroine? Why not tell yourself a story about how much value you have and how grateful you are that value is appreciated. Why not tell yourself a story about how your new partner will help you feel seen, heard and understood and yes, loved. That’s connection.
You are the main character in your own movie. It’s up to you whether you right a drama, a romantic comedy or a straight up horror flick. You get to choose.
