Power creep in Magic: The Gathering is real but not all power is created equal or bad I would say.
In this video, I break down how different types of double-faced cards have evolved over time, from the original Innistrad transform cards to MDFCs, flip commanders, and the newest designs that actively care about transforming back and forth. Using examples like Sephiroth, Miles, Brigid, and Sygg, we’ll look at how separating engine and payoff across two sides creates earned power rather than immediate, unchecked value in cards like Vivi.
Double faced cards don’t eliminate power creep but they have the ability to reshape it. By forcing players to meet conditions, commit mana, and interact with the board, these designs introduce friction that single faced cards simply can’t replicate in my opinion.
