Universal Credit Key Facts - Cambridge - ARE YOU READY for 17 October 2018?
Universal Credit replaces some of the benefits and tax credits that you might be getting now, including:
Housing Benefit
Child Tax Credit
Income Support
Working Tax Credit
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.
You are in an area which offers a FULL SERVICE. If you are entitled to any of the benefits which are being replaced, you'll be asked to claim Universal Credit.
If you get help with your rent, this will be included in your monthly Universal Credit payment - you'll then pay Cambridge City Council directly.
If you live with someone as a couple and you are both entitled to claim UC, you will get one monthly payment paid into a single bank account.
Universal Credit is paid monthly in arrears so it can take up to five weeks after you make your claim to get your first payment.
There are no limits on how many hours a week you can work if you are claiming Universal Credit. Instead the amount you get will gradually reduce as you earn more so you won't lose all your benefits at once.
You have to make and manage your Universal Credit claim online. For this you will need an email address.
If you are a Tenant of Cambridge City Council and wish to discuss Universal Credit and changes to how you pay your rent, please ask at Cashiers and Reception for an appointment to speak to your Rent Advisor James Stephenson.
