Directed by Sam Wisternoff - Ill Spectre Productions.
Shot by James Hankins & Mark Hankins
Moving from whispered acoustics and vocoder-soft vocals towards a swelling, cinematic finale, ‘Werewolf Ending’ is a hypnotic meditation on culminations and transformations – and the brand-new single by isle of Eigg-based Scottish psychedelic electronic-pop ogre Johnny Lynch, AKA Pictish Trail. Produced by Mike Lindsay (Tunng, LUMP), it’s on streaming platforms now via Fire Records. Together with a string of previous singles – ‘Infinity Ooze’, ‘Hold It’, ‘Torch Song’ and ‘Another Way’ – it’s taken from the forthcoming sixth full-length Pictish Trail album Life Slime, the follow-up to 2022’s acclaimed Island Family. A fan first / tour exclusive pre-release Primordial Blue-In-Pink Goo Edition is available to order now on vinyl and CD via Fire Records and Lost Map Records (full album release date TBA). Pictish Trail will play his first show of 2026 at St Luke’s in Glasgow as part of the Celtic Connections festival on January 17, with a full-band tour for next year just announced.

About ‘Werewolf Ending’, Pictish Trail writes:
“A song about the moment you recognise that something in your life is shifting permanently – that strange mix of dread and clarity when an ending starts to take shape. I wanted to capture the emotional preparation that happens in those moments: the bracing, the bargaining, the quiet acceptance. It can feel dramatic, even cinematic, like you’re watching the closing scene of your own story from a slight distance.
“The verses reference iconic film endings because those scenes always carry a kind of inevitable calm – a sense that once the change begins, you can’t force things back into their old shape. That idea of shape-shifting runs through the song: the old form dissolving, a new one waiting but not yet known. The music hopefully mirrors that feeling of mutation. For me, it’s a song about finding a way out of a feeling of being trapped, and trusting that endings, however painful, can also be the beginning of becoming something else.”
