Who Has The Largest Military in Europe?
I’ll specifically be looking at manpower, so not taking into account equipment like, tanks, ships or aircraft.
With that in mind, at the top, to no one’s surprise is Russia. They have a total of 1.3 million soldiers with reportedly 600,000 in Ukraine right now. Talking of which unsurprisingly next is Ukraine, with around 880,000 sodliers.
Third place is tied by Poland and France with both having just over 200,000 soldiers each. Followed by Germany, Italy , Greece and only then the UK.
In fact, not including Ukraine, Russia has more soldiers than all these countries combined.
Now keep in mind these are just active duty personnel numbers, so these figures don't include reserves or paramilitary like all of France’s Gendermarie Nationale.
In fact the rankings would change considerably if you did include them. For example Finland has a measly 24,000 active duty soldiers but a whopping 870,000 reservists and Ukraine has 3.5 Million people signed up to it’s reserve+ app who could be called to fight at any point. .
